I have now purchased another Galant Turbo (I must have had a fair percentage
of the UK total!). This one has only done 51,000 miles. It has been fitted
with 15" Starion wheels, a K&N air filter and a 2" stainless
steel exhaust. The downpipe has also been replaced with a nicely curved
stainless steel one.
One of the first things to do is to replace the clutch which is slipping
quite badly. I have a Starion flywheel which has been modified to take
a Sierra Cosworth clutch. This should handle the extra power that I am
planning and also has the benefit of being half the price of the cheapest
pattern clutch.
Future modifications include the fitting of all the good bits from the
silver car and a Saab 9000 or Starion intercooler. The suspension bushes
can now be replaced with uprated ones from Superflex. I also plan to make
the front lower links adjustable for camber which is currently zero degrees.
I have bought and fitted a pair of wide-body Starion black leather seats.
These offer far more support then the standard seats and look great as
well.
Most of this has to wait for the moment until I have finished my Escort
Project. As soon as this is running reliably I can start using it everyday
and put the Galant in the garage and start modifying.
I'll keep you posted.
