All rear wheel drive turbo models are powered by a 2 litre 4 cylinder, 8 valve, sohc engine producing 168bhp. The later Starions were fitted with an intercooler which, together with an increase in boost, produced 177bhp.

The engine fitted is the 4G63 engine which has 2 balancer shafts rotating at twice crankshaft speed to reduce vibration.  Compression ratio is 7.6:1 which, combined with 7.5psi of boost, provides 168bhp at 5,500rpm and 181lbs/ft of torque at 4,500rpm.

The Lancer is fitted with a solid axle whereas the Galant, Starion and Sapporo have an independant rear suspension.  The Starion is the only model with a factory fitted L.S.D. although it is easily fitted into the Galant and Sapporo.  It can be fitted into a Lancer axle but the casing requires machining/modification.

Vented discs are fitted front (10.1in) and rear (9.7in) to all models.
